Sleep Safety
Simple, well-established safe sleep guidance for babies — and how our sleep bags fit into it.
The basics
Paediatric bodies and safe sleep campaigns agree on a short list of habits that matter most. Following them consistently, night and nap, is what counts.
- Place baby on their back for every sleep, night and nap.
- Use a firm, flat sleep surface with a fitted sheet made for that surface.
- Keep the sleep space clear — no pillows, bumpers, toys or loose blankets.
- Share a room, but not a bed, for at least the first six months.
- Keep the room comfortably cool and avoid overheating.
Where sleep bags fit
A sleep bag replaces loose blankets: it keeps baby warm without anything loose in the cot. Choose a weight that suits your room temperature and check that the neck opening and armholes fit snugly so baby cannot slip down inside.
Stop using a sleep bag once baby can unzip it or starts trying to climb out of the cot.
Temperature and layers
Dress baby in a simple base layer under the bag and adjust that layer rather than adding blankets. A good check is the back of the neck or chest — warm but not sweaty is the target.
