Fabric Guide

Everything we make starts with bamboo viscose. Here is why, and how to keep it soft.

What bamboo viscose is

Bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre made from bamboo pulp. It is spun into a yarn that takes dye beautifully and feels noticeably smoother than cotton against the skin.

It is not the same as a raw bamboo stalk being woven, and it is not the same as bamboo lyocell. We call ours viscose because that is the accurate name.

Why we use it

  • Soft and smooth — it drapes rather than scratches, which matters on newborn skin.
  • Breathable — it moves heat and moisture away, so babies are less likely to wake up clammy.
  • Stretchy — the natural give means a snug fit without fighting the fabric on.
  • Takes colour well — prints stay vivid wash after wash.

Care instructions

  • Machine wash cold, with like colours.
  • Tumble dry low, or hang to dry to extend the life of the print.
  • Do not bleach, iron or dry clean.
  • Skip fabric softener and dryer sheets — they coat the fibre and reduce breathability.
  • Wash zipped garments zipped up to protect the fabric in the drum.

Pilling and first washes

A small amount of surface fuzz in the first few washes is normal for viscose and settles down. Washing inside out with similar fabrics helps.

Safety and standards

Our sleepwear is designed with a snug fit in mind, because loose-fitting children’s sleepwear is a fire-safety risk. Snug fit is not a sizing mistake — it is deliberate.

REVIEW: confirm the flammability / safety standard your garments are actually tested to before publishing any compliance claim.
